About J.Neary Photograhy

I first discovered my love for photography when I was only three years old vacationing on Nantucket Island. With my father's bulky camera barely in hand, I pushed the button I was instructed to; the sound of the shutter indicated I had taken the shot. An early lesson in patience and some weeks later we took the film to be developed, and out from a cardboard envelope came my first picture. It was mostly an introduction to the camera itself, producing some rehearsed snapshot on the back deck, the dull afternoon lingering above. More importantly I remember how much the idea of photography amazed me. I could capture a scene, an otherwise fading memory, and visit it in vivid detail anytime I wanted!

When I reached high school I spent my elective classes learning about various art mediums, and while I love to sketch, photography easily became my favorite. This was also when I became acquainted with Photoshop, leading to hours of experimenting with graphic design.

While I love shooting a variety of subjects, nature is my favorite. The biggest draw about outdoor subjects is the adventure of getting there; I'll use any excuse to go for a hike! On the contrary, I also enjoy urban exploring, getting to see the impact we have, the story of a past era, and capturing nature slowly reclaiming what it was meant to be tamed by.

Through my travels I hope to collect a variety of pictures that shed light on where I've been through my own artistic perspective. It's a pleasure to be able to share my experiences with the world, and I hope you enjoy at least one of them with me through my work!
